Artist Faves: Charlotte Hayward

8-25_ArtistFaves_CharlotteHayward_Final_blog

Charlotte Hayward is a hair and makeup artist who works primarily in the film industry but also within fashion, editorial, red carpet and celebrity. Specializing in beauty makeup and leading ladies, Charlotte has spent years travelling for work and trying new products and techniques.

Recently, Charlotte was the hair and Makeup supervisor for the Stunt 2nd Unit on  the summer hit Jason Bourne. Supporting Frances Hannon who headed up the entire project, Charlotte was in charge of keeping an eye on all the action scenes and traveled between London, Tenerife, and Las Vegas.

These are Charlotte’s go-to Sigma faves for natural beauty and easy application:

High Caliber Lash Mascara: Gives a more natural lash effect which is always my go to look on a movie. It keeps lashes thin and defined but lengthens them and so opens the eye by fanning the lashes out
E34 Domed Utility: One of faves for contouring and blending in the socket of the eye! I now can’t do my eye makeups without them!
E06 Winged Liner Brush: Best liner brush! keeps its shape so you can get a neat line when using a liner pot. The shape also helps you create the perfect wing or subtle flick
F06 Powder Sweep: This is a great small powder brush for the eye area
Spa Mat: So great to have with you to put in the sink at home or in a hotel room on location. The texture of the Mat really helps to clean the brushes quickly. Paired with a brush soap which is my favorite way of cleaning them it makes for a quick and efficient clean up!

Artist Faves: Ellen Arden

3-29_ArtistFaves_blogThis last weekend, one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2016 premiered to excited audiences everywhere. Batman v Superman smashed box office records and will only continue to entertain audiences around the world. One of our extremely talented PROs had the honor of heading up a division of artists on the film. Ellen Arden is an IATSE 798 Journeyman Makeup Artist, specializing in film, television, and celebrity makeup. Ellen’s most recent work includes Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (Universal Pictures) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Warner Brothers). Ellen was kind enough to let us take a peek into her kit and share what her Sigma essentials are to use on set.

The Warm Neutrals Palette is a great all around eyeshadow palette. The shades compliment all skin tones and blend seamlessly.
The E25 Blending is one of my favorite brushes! I use them to blend out liners and lightly powder the under-eye area, I’ve even used them to cover tattoos with alcohol palettes. They’re the best!
The P80 Precision Flat is an amazing concealer brush! It allows me to blend out creams to hide and diffuse problem areas in a snap.
Sigma’s E30 Pencil Brushes are awesome! I often use eyeshadows as liner to create a soft and natural dimension that is pleasing to the camera.
The F25 Tapered Face Brush is my favorite brush for applying powders. The tapered bristles help you create a soft and gradient application of blot powder, bronzer, blush, and highlights while giving you the added benefit of control of placement, unlike large and fluffy brushes.
The E58 Cream Color Brush is definitely one of my favorites! Not only do I find that these brushes work wonders for getting a clean precise application of cream eyeshadow, but they also double as an awesome concealer and lip brush. The flat synthetic bristles with the perfectly tapered edges allow you to apply an array of cream products with ease… and who doesn’t love a multi-tasker!?
Sigma Brow Wax pencils are definitely one of my kit staples! Sure, its great for getting your brows under control and prepping them for brow powders, but I also like to use them around the lip line to prevent lip color and/or gloss from feathering. I have also used them to “outline” the edge of the brows when tinting to prevent any rogue stains, to waterproof an eyeliner in a pinch, and to create a trail for tears to follow in crying scenes. Ha!

‘What I like best about my Sigma brushes is the even distribution of makeup. My male clients prefer to wear makeup only when necessary, such as leveling the skin tone under harsh studio lighting. Therefore, when my guys do wear makeup they want a light, balanced application. The gentle bristles of the Sigma brushes allow me to apply just the right amount of makeup, which prevents caking and blotching on the skin. Simply, the BEST!’ – Kristan Serafino

She’s also worked backstage at Fashion Week, most recently the Tom Ford A/W15 Women’s Wear Collection. Maria gave us some of her favorite Sigma Beauty must-haves for her kit:

  • Sigma Line Perfector E68: My favorite brush to use on brows and eyes. The angle and size of this brush makes it easy to create fool proof lines for a defined eye.
  • Sigma Soft Blend Concealer F64: I use this brush to soften concealer for a flawless finish. Also great to set a finishing powder under the eyes and around the nose.
  • Sigma Airbrush Blender F63: Soft and dense brush, great to create a defined crease and to blend out shadow for a perfect smokey eye.
  • Sigma 3D HD Kabuki: I can’t live without this brush! I use it to apply skincare, foundation and to contour. It’s all you need for a flawless makeup application. It feels like you are getting a mini facial when you use this brush.
  • Brow Powder Duo: I love the brow powder duo because I can create a soft natural unruly brow or a defined brow depending on the look. I use the lighter shade to fill in where there is more hair and the darker shade to define and shape.
